Why does the sound keep turning off on my t.v?

i have a 42in flatscreen LG after my tvs been turned off for a while once i turn it on theres no sound. usually i just turn it on and off again and the sound kicks in. last time i had to turn it on and off like 6 times before i got any sound. does anybody know whats goin on?
