If my dog had low thyroid...?

Is it treatable? I've kinda ruled it all down, and the vet said thats what it probably is, but the test to determine it is pretty darn expensive. We are still trying to find someone who will let us do a payment plan thing...and I forgot to mention this in my last question...heh sorry. :/
